Westchester County, NY (August 21, 2012) – On Friday, November 2, Westchester will take a trip down memory lane with its first annual Pop Goes the Culture variety show, for which it is now seeking sponsors. Presented by A-Sides with Jon Chattman, in association with The Digital Arts Experience, Pop Goes the Culture is an evening of “pop-stalgia” filled with meaningful performances and meaningless — but well-intentioned — awards. Held at the White Plains Performing Arts Center in White Plains, the event promises to be a wildly entertaining and unforgettable night of comedy, music, and more.

Emceed by popular White Plains-based comedian Carlos A. Hernandez, Pop Goes the Culture recognizes the best and brightest in 80s and 90s pop culture history as it relates to Westchester. Wrestling legend Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka, whose autobiography Superfly will be published by Triumph this December and was co-written by Chattman, will receive the Lifetime Achievement of Pop Culture Award, while 80s Icon Slim Goodbody will be honored with the Body of Work Lifetime Achievement Award. Other honorees include TV icons The Magic Garden’s Paula and Carole, as well as ‘30 Rock’ actor Grizz Chapman AND John Basedow!

“Alec Baldwin always gets nominated for (and wins) Emmys. Meryl Streep can have her Oscars. How many Grammy’s does Adele have? Seriously, the same heavyweights are always honored. It’s time to celebrate beloved treasures that – for years- have gotten the shaft,” Chattman explained. “Snuka is a terribly underrated wrestling legend. Sure, he’s in the Hall of Fame, but he never got the push Hulk Hogan did in the 1980s. That’s a tragedy. Similarly, Slim Goodbody and The Magic Garden were such a big part of my childhood yet these days people would rather focus on cartoons or Yo Gabba Gabba. Lastly, why hasn’t anyone else honored Grizz Chapman for simply being Grizz Chapman? To quote Imagine Dragons, ‘It’s time!’”

Giving out good-natured awards will not be the only thing going on in White Plains that night. The event, which comes equipped with the tagline “Are You a Culture Vulture?” will also feature live music and comedy acts from the county and beyond. House band Wild Adriatic will set the mood with songs from their “Lock & Key” EP. The event will also feature performances by NYC-band J. Aims and The Fever, Irvington and Connecticut’s Goodnite Gracie, Yonkers-based pianist Gary Chattman, rocker Anna Rose, and Mary C. and the Stellars, an eclectic pop/soul group.

“There is a world of talent in Westchester and a lot outside of our walls yet it’s hard to see a great show in the county. I love that the Capitol Theatre is reopening in Port Chester – this county needs to rock. It’s an untapped region for great events,” explained Chattman, who noted this event will fall under his new promotions banner with the Digital Arts Experience’s CEO Robert Kissner.

“Why go to NYC when you can see an amazing show in Westchester? Pop Goes the Culture is only the beginning of what we have planned,” Chattman said.

Wild Adriatic is a four-piece rock band with heavy soul and blues influences. After sharing stages across the Northeast with bands like MuteMath, Company of Thieves, Third Eye Blind, Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Saving Abel, and many more, the band was chosen as the Best Band in the Capital Region by regional independent radio heavyweight 102.7 WEQX and the Magic Hat Brewing Company. Founded in 2009 by vocalist/guitarist Travis Gray, the band features Shane Gilman on guitar, Rich Derbyshire on bass, and Mateo Vosganian on drums. Their recently released EP, “Lock & Key,” has a soulful, vintage-feeling rock and roll sound with bluesy riffs and catchy vocals.

Current event sponsors include MSM DesignZ, Co-Communications, and Star Toilet Paper. A variety of sponsorship opportunities are still available. For sponsorship inquiries or to interview any of the honorees, please contact Jon Chattman at jonchattman@gmail.com.

Tickets for Pop Goes the Culture start at $20 per person and may be purchased online or at the door. Show starts at 8:00 pm. For the best seating selection, visit www.wwppac.com. Learn more about Pop Goes the Culture at www.asidesmusic.com.
